Zoe's Musings

So I'm trying to get my blogging brain back in gear but it's proving to be quite difficult. I've been blogging for effectively a year now, which is the longest time I've ever kept up a disciplined hobby, and I'm really struggling to find the motivation and drive to post regularly. I made a little goal for myself to write 100 blog posts this year (after having written 88 last year), but having only written 3 last month I'm already quite far behind...

The issue I have is the age old dilemma that I don't want to create content for the sake of posting something on schedule every single week, as I want to feel proud of everything that I'm creating for my blog. It can be really hard to find something that I'm proud enough of to post, as I probably write about 3 drafts for every 1 post that makes it, or have 5 ideas for every 2 that actually turn into posts. Whoever said blogging was easy is sadly mistaken!

What I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry my content has been a bit bare recently, and that I've not really posted anything that interesting. I really want to continue with my weekly musings posts because I'm really enjoying those, but I'm considering making them into 'Monthly Musings' instead as I feel like they can become a bit repetitive, especially as I've started second semester so they're probably not going to be that long for the next few weeks until Easter. Also I think I'll find it a bit easier to maintain uploading those posts once a month rather than once a week along side another post. I feel like my blog will become saturated with Weekly Musings posts and not much else otherwise!

Otherwise I've been feeling a little bit overwhelmed recently, I'm trying to get back into the routine of having lectures alongside trying to find the time to do regular life things like sleep and eat and food shopping and laundry so getting that balance as well as finding time to do creative things like blog and read has been fairly challenging. I'm hoping that by sitting down every once in a while to just think creatively and to plan blog posts is going to help get those creative juices flowing once more!

I'm going to let you in on a secret. This last week or so I've been trying to write posts and I just can't seem to get the words out.

I've had a bit of a mare of a time recently, just had a lot on my mind and a lot on my plate, it's been hard to get my mind to rest long enough to sit down and just write. I use blogging as a distraction and as a creative outlet for my otherwise fairly stressful life as a biological sciences student. It is a lot of fun, and often I find myself going on bloglovin or drafting posts when I feel a bit down and stressed just as a break. However with all that's been going on it's been a bit of a struggle, hence why I didn't post on Saturday.

I also wanted to spare a moment to talk about the devastating attacks in Paris and Beirut and all of the other awful things that happened in the world last week. The people suffering during these dark times have constantly been on my mind, and I'd like to formally extend my condolences to those who were personally affected.

I try to keep things light and fluffy on my blog, as I think of it as a little safe cozy haven away from all the nastiness in my personal life and beyond, but I do think it's important to be as real as possible when blogging, and also to acknowledge and support those who need support in times like these.

So yeah! That's all I wanted to say, I felt like my absence from my blog & largely from social media warranted a little explanation, and I wanted to talk briefly about how saddened I have been to listen to the news this last week or so. Sending everyone a big virtual hug this week, I feel like the world needs a hug.

Autumn is well and truly setting in now, as much as I would rather the summer would stay around just a bit longer. I have exactly 3 weeks until I have to move to university, away from my family, and I'm terrified.

I'm not scared about the moving as such, although that'll be weird. I'm only going to be a couple of hours away from my family, so I'm not too worried about it. I hope everyone I'm sharing a flat with are nice, the ones I've spoken to so far have all seemed to be kind, and really helpful, so that's good.
I'm more worried about my classes. I have to take classes in chemistry and maths, and I'm awful at both of them. I don't know why my uni took me on, because I didn't get good results in my chemistry or maths, but I'm going to have to work extra hard at them to try and catch up.  I see lots of time spent in the library in my future.

I've only got 4 shifts left at my job, and as much as it's work and I get tired of it from time to time, with difficult customers, I really do enjoy it, and I'll miss the people I work with. I've gained so much from the few short months I've worked there, I feel like I've grown up and gained so much confidence from it.

Other than that not much has happened in my life. I'm beginning to get stuff ready for uni, and I'm super nervous!
